Day Seventeen: Had a great long weekend in Denver! Now back to school. Today we had a Faculty Meeting where we looked at the school UPI. During 1st and 3rd we had a discussion on the book Cloaked. We split the classes into two smaller groups and talked about what we liked, disliked, would change, how the book would be different in a different setting, and about fairy tales. Then they got the opportunity to write their own fairy tale by combing fairy tales together. We had the students do a JAMmi' Minute: pull up the flag; swab the deck; crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, tred water; jump over rats; climb the ladder. This program is designed to help teacher incorporate movement into the classroom. And wow it works! 5th period planning was full of grading! 7th period is the advanced English class and the kids read the book The Uglies. We had a Socratic Seminar with the kids and it went really well!
Day Eighteen: Morning meeting was 6th/E team Intervention and kids that need help or to be watched were discussed. 2nd period read aloud, MAZE, RCBM, silent reading, and read aloud again. 4th: Team meeting involved discussing ELL kids and talked about kids and bullying. 6th: I ran the whole class. During the discussion over the book I kept the class in one big group. One funny thing that was said, "I'm a fairy tale head." Assembly Period: We went to the gym and kids could play basketball/ shoot hoops or bowl. I bowled with a few girls and it was so fun. Instead of bowling the normal way I rolled the ball with both hands. The kids started to call it "Oeding Style."
Day Nineteen: Content Team Meeting is where we meet with all the English teachers. This was cool because we discussed the writing and grammar grid that Molly and I are working on. 1st, 3rd, 6th: We watched the Weekly Rap on flocabulary.com. After this the kids shared their fairy tale stories. They were really good and some were pretty funny and innovated. 7th: flocabulary.com Weekly Rap and then the kids drew tattoos and shared them. During 5th period Team meeting we started to figure out groups for TCAP but the online program wasn't working. So, we discussed advisory and what it might look like next year with flocabulary, activities, and reading books as a grade level.
